Review of Safer Outside by Kristina Renee

1

When Liz moves to a new high school, she hopes for a fresh start. School is her escape from the violence at home and her only hope at breaking the cycle of poverty she was born into. Trying to shield her siblings from her stepfather's fury gets harder each day so when she meets Logan, she thinks it will be a harmless distraction from the fear.

She's Wrong.

Logan has the resources to change her life but at what cost? Her relationship is the best thing that ever happened to her but it could also be the worst. If she's not careful, she may lose everyone that's important to her. But it's hard to be careful when you're fifteen and in love.

MY REVIEW

4 Stars

I really enjoyed reading this book and I couldn't put it down once I started reading. I was disappointed when I finished reading it because it could have been longer or there should be a sneak peek in their future. It was a happy ending but it's the type even though it's the end it felt lacking.

Elizabeth "Liz" moved back to her old middle school and started a new. New name minus the extra body weight. She not only tries to live her new image but she also tries to escape the problems home. She then captured the attention of Logan, a senior student. As they start to have relationship Liz has trouble deciding whether to be with Logan or not due to the baggage she carries.

Safer outside was just written right but probably except for the ending but that's just for me.

Liz may still be insecure about herself but she grew stronger as the story goes on. Despite being with Logan she still thinks of her family and will do anything for them to keep them safe. She is far stronger than her mother ( I hated her throughout the whole story but liked her a little bit at the end). In the end, it was up to her to save her family.

Logan was really sweet. I had trepidations about them being together at first but Logan won me, I mean Liz. He is also very romantic. The things he did for her for showing his feelings for her were just so so... I'm glad that he turned out to be a great guy.

Liz mother was well, let's just say she had her wake up call and it took an incident to happen to Liz for her to realize that she was really in the wrong.

But overall, it was great read. It's pretty realistic although the feelings of Logan and Liz for each other were probably too fast.

I can't wait to read the rest of this series once it's out.

Excerpt
A warm breeze ruffled the trees, and she glanced at her camera. The stupid tripod didn’t want to stay in place. She grumbled under her breath. Squatting down, she jiggled the tiny metal legs into the earth, hoping to steady it. A couple of rocks would help. She grabbed a few of the biggest ones and circled the tripod legs with them to keep it stable.
Long strands of frizzy hair kept falling forward out of her ponytail, tickling the side of her face. She tugged the annoying hair behind her ear and continued to mess with the tripod.
“Stupid, friggin’, piece of—”
A low growl sounded close. Too close. She whipped up to her feet, still holding one of the rocks in her hands and turned in a flash. Unfortunately, she was also one of the clumsiest people and tripped on her own feet. She lost her balance, and she fell on her ass.
“Carajo!”
A howl sounded from the ceremony site, and she scrambled to her knees to watch one of the wolves, she'd guess it was Marco because he was bigger, sniffing Kelly’s behind.
“Just like a man to go straight for the goods.” She snorted.
But she didn’t get a chance to keep watching. Something bumped her backside, pushing her forward. She tangled on the tripod and fell on her face.
“Oh, for crying out loud.” Clearly, she sucked at being inconspicuous. Strands of hair fell forward, covering her vision. She lifted on all four and flipped to sit on her ass. There he was, the one shifter that drove her absolutely crazy in every way possible.
“Spot? What are you doing here? And why did you bury your nose in my ass, you pervert?”
Not that it turned her on that he put his nose in her ass. It was…weird. He growled. The low deep sound twisted her belly into all kinds of knots. Oh, boy. She was in trouble. Staring at his cute furry face, she was very tempted to lift a hand and pet him.
Nathan, big, bad, sexy, pierced hunk of male candy stood not more than five feet in front of her in his wolf form. The form that looked like a cute Dalmatian-wolf with a white spot over his muzzle, hence the name she’d given him, “Spot.”
His eyes glittered in that golden shade from his animal. A shiver raced down her spine.
“I know how this must look, but it’s not what you think.” She felt like a moron talking to him when he was a giant wolf. He took a step toward her. She squiggled an inch further away. With a quick swipe, she moistened her dry lips with the tip of her tongue. “We were invited to be here. I swear.”

MY REVIEW
5 Stars

This book got me finished reading it in one sitting. A Mate's Bite is the second series of Sassy Mates which can be read as a stand alone but it's better to read it in order. I haven't read Scent of Mate (Sassy Mates #1) but it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy reading A Mate's Bite.

Karla and Nate's relationship is very sweet but at the same time hot, sexy, and very erotic. Karla's story was very emotional and although it affected her and Nate's relationship I'm glad that she was able to overcome it and that Nate (thankfully he followed his mother's advice) was able to break down the walls surrounding Karla's heart.

I liked that Karla was able to stand up for herself even if Kass (I really hate her and good riddance that they washed their hands off her) was the one who also helped open eyes and that she finally let go of her insecurities and trust both herself and Nate.

It is nice to see what good friendship can do with the support of her mate's family. They got her back and I'm glad she finally realized it. I can't wait for the rest of the series. It would be interesting to know how the other couples get together.

Book Description:

Bound by blood and flame...

Mica Thomas is not having a good year. First, her Primani Sean vanishes without a trace. Second, a sadistic demon wants to use her as leverage. Third, her totally unwanted powers are making her nuts. And then there’s Killian...his eyes hold secrets that confuse her and his every touch sends her blood racing out of control.

Killian has secrets--a lot of them. With Sean MIA, it’s up to him to keep Mica safe while her powers evolve. His protection takes a dangerous turn when she becomes a pawn in the game. Desperate to keep her alive, he drags her into his private world of ancient power and bloody altars with devastating consequences.

With their minds and bodies connected, is there room for Sean?

Short Excerpt:

I was humming “Chasing Cars” in the shower when the clear curtain slid back. Sean leaned against the sink, letting his eyes drift down my soapy body. He still wore jeans, but the button was undone and they rode low on his hips. He’d already stripped off the t-shirt he wore today. I licked my lips and tried to say something sexy but nothing came out. My tongue got stuck in my mouth. Instead, I stepped back to make room. The jeans hit the floor in the blink of an eye and his hands were everywhere at once. With my back against the warm tile, I closed my eyes and let the sensations overwhelm me. He dragged his lips away from my mouth and smiled wickedly. Nonplussed, I started to ask what he was up to, but it came out as a yelp when he scooped me up and wrapped my legs around his waist. His arms cushioned me from the hard tile as he impaled me with one quick thrust.
“Oh. My. God.”
Moving against me now, he bit my earlobe and murmured, “Not quite.”
After using all of the hot water, we stumbled to the bedroom to work out the bed. Exhausted and limp, I trailed my finger through the fine black hair that formed his happy trail and said, “There is no way that you’ve never had sex before me. You’re like a porn star.”
“A porn star?” He propped himself up on his elbow and frowned.
He looked so disgruntled, I started to giggle. “Baby, wait. I meant that as a compliment! You’re just so amazing when we…uh, do it.” I blushed and shut up.
“You’re a mess. You know that? Of course it’s amazing! Hello? Supernatural beings here! Our souls are connected; we share the same saol. God Mica, when I see you my brain and my body go into hyper-drive with awareness. I feel every breath you take, every heartbeat, every emotion. When I touch you, I feel your blood flowing under your skin. I feel it under my fingertips. I have the power to draw it to the surface anywhere I want. Do you know how hot that makes me? I want to lose myself in you.” He gently traced a pale blue vein on my chest with his thumb. It pulsed in response. “I can give you pleasure because I feel what you want when your breath catches just so.”
My breath caught as he nipped my collarbone with his teeth. I felt my bones turn liquid again and knew he was right. I felt the same things when I touched him. I was turned on just standing close to him. He hummed with energy that I felt on every inch of my skin. I assumed everyone in love felt this way, but maybe he was right. Our souls were entwined as much as our bodies. Maybe this was special.
He peered up from the vicinity of my naval and asked, “Besides, what made you think I was a virgin?”

MY REVIEW
4 stars

I must admit I haven't read the first book of this series, "Primani". I actually thought it was a stand alone and I was wrong. It definitely is the continuation of the first series so it was confusing for me at first. But I will definitely read Primani to understand it better.

Assuming this second installment, began a year after Sean supposedly died. Mica had nightmares and experienced pain and sorrow because for her Sean was her soul mate. During that time, Killian became her protector and they both fell in love with each other. Killian also helped with Mica's training when her powers were evolving. Although Sean returned because Mica was able to find him with the help of Killian and Dec. At Sean's return, Killian erased Mica's memories of their love for each other in order to not hurt and betray Sean. As the story goes, Mica's team must still find and defeat the demon that is wrecking havoc but amidst the danger there are more secrets to be discovered one that can also be their downfall.

I couldn't connect to Mica at the beginning because I found her too reckless, nosy, and headstrong which only gets her into more trouble which in turns becomes annoying. Usually, all the misshapen she experienced is in a way her fault which gets annoying. I think the part I hated the most was when she had a last goodbye relationship with Killian when Sean returned. I also agree that they both made the wrong choice especially Killian with regards to erasing the memories of Mica.

Although I do love the friendship between these four characters and that despite their differences and falling outs they still support each other. The love triangle between Mica, Sean, and Killian is really complicated and deep. It was hard for me to choose who I want Mica to end up with but for me Seth is 1% above Killian. Only 1% because it is difficult choosing between Sean and Killian but it would probably be different for you if you finished reading near the ending of the story. Killian does deserve his own happy ending as well. I think I love Dec most of all. He's like the mix of all three plus he acts the mediator although I do sympathize him because he usually suffers the most when their team fights.

There should be a warning about tragedy in this book. It became an emotional ride for me especially the ending. I can't wait to for the next book to come out or more likely have it available. The ending is definitely a cliffhanger.
