FALL WITH ME Synopsis:

Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.

Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.

But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.

~ EXCERPT ~
Someone—was it Melvin?—catcalled as Reece led me down the hall, and my cheeks flushed. “Okay, heman, I can walk all by my little self.”
He cast a look over his shoulder at me as he opened the office door. “I’m sure you can.”
Then he pulled me inside.
My gaze flipped to the roses—the roses!—but before I could say a word, he closed the door and my back was pressed against it, his hands planted on either side of my head and his face right in mine. Like right there, within kissing distance.
Wow.
“So, I was at my father’s place in New Jersey most of the day, and you know, he lives out near the Pine Barrens, so service is shit.”
I nodded even though I really wasn’t processing what he was saying as I was too busy staring at his mouth. Those lips, fuller on the bottom, drove me to distraction.
“I pull out of his driveway and I have all these messages from Dennis,” he continued, and I finally caught on to what he was talking about. “I honestly thought he was messing with me at first.”
I cringed. “He . . . um, he wasn’t.”
He shot me a bland look. “That much I figured out.” His hands slid on the door, stopping just shy of touching my shoulders. “What did he do to you?”
“What?” I blinked.
“What did that bastard do to make you throw a book through his windshield?”
Oh. Oh. My heart was now wiggling along with my stomach. “He really didn’t do anything. I just lost my cool. He wanted to talk to me, and I didn’t want to talk to him.”
“You don’t have to talk to him.”
“That’s what Dennis said, but I shouldn’t have damaged his car.”
A muscle flexed along his right jaw. “That’s true.” He shook his head. “Damn, Roxy, can’t say I’m surprised.”
My brows flew up. “You’re not?”
He laughed under his breath. “Babe, you’ve always had a hell of a temper on you.”
Ah, that was kind of true. “Is that a good thing or a bad thing?”
Reece cocked his head to the side. “A sexy thing, but vandalism and destruction of property doesn’t look good on you, sweets.”
“No. It doesn’t match my manicure.” I raised my hands, flashing him the blue nails.
He laughed again and then he sobered up, just like that. Cop Face was on, and yeah . . . the low coiling in my stomach told me I found Cop Face arousing. “You’re lucky. He could’ve pressed charges, and this conversation would be going in a whole different direction.”
My own half smile slipped off my face. “I know. It’s . . . I was just with Charlie, and he’s . . .” Unable to continue, I forced a casual shrug I didn’t feel. “What are you going to do with me?”
His lips parted as his chest rose with a deep breath, then his gaze dropped to my mouth, and his expression tightened. He looked . . . he looked hungry. “I have lots of ideas.”

~ REVIEW ~
4 STARS

This was kind of a sweet and stubborn kind of romance book at the same time I liked how Olivia stood up for herself and chose the things she wanted to do in her life.

At first, the pacing was kind of slow but it turned out better especially when Logan made his appearance when he was trying to get Olivia's attention.

I actually liked Olivia but her character was bit weak or placating for me well at the beginning and somewhere in the middle anyway. But she gets better especially towards the end. The only thing I can relate to Olivia though were her goals and the things she wants to do in order to please her parents. I felt for her when her boyfriend make that her ex said something about that embarrassed her and let her experienced not so good things.

I was not pleased with the other characters especially her friend Savannah. I wonder what kind of friend was she. It's like she supprots Olivia and th next poof nothing. I especially disliked it that she was with Dane (Although they were both kind of okay later) when Olivia was in turmoil. Although the person I wasn't most please about was Ella. That girl has some major jealosy issues and making others feel bad about themselves. I really wished karma got her but that never happened. The only good thing that happened was that Olivia finally stood up to her.

I really likd Logan. At first I thought he was that cliche popular type of guy but there's more to him than meets the eye. Well, his previous self was like taht before a tragedy occurred in his past. I liked both him and his brother. You could feel their close relationship.

Olivia and Logan's relationshio was rocky at the beginning because of what Olivia was going through. It seemed after her break up with her boyfriend everything around her seemed to have gone downhill from there. What a really bad timing for Logan but I'm glad he persevered in his pursuit of Olivia. I'm glad that Olivia finally had the sense to give in with Logan.

Olivia has a habit she does when she sleeps at night. The main cause why things seemed harder for her. I had a bad feeling when she decided to video tape it and I was right. I have a feeling who took her things and uploaded the video. I just really wished that person got what was coming. At the same time. I'm glad she has the support of her friends especially Logan's.

The romance in the story is mild compare to other NAs but at the same time it is still sweet. All is well at the end. I'm happy for Olivia and the things she want to pursue in her life for herself and not for her parents. I especially loved the part where she stood up for her relationship with Logan. I was hoping there would be conclusion for her relationship with parents but nothing was mentione after that.

I'm excited for the next book in this series. It is Jordan's story.

~ REVIEW ~
5 STARS

This was better than the last one and when I mean better it'll be difficult to put down the book once you've start reading.

It continues from the ending of Bound by Duty wherein Amelia left with Micah while Aidan is with Betty looking for Cole, in order to save Amelia. Nothing turns out as you least expected. The author will keep you guessing and the secrets that I've been wondering from part one was mind blowing. Although not all of it have been revealed yet.

I'm still not sure how I find Amelia, I still think her character trait in doing things first before thinking is going to be her downfall even if she has the right intentions. What I do like about her is that despite her situation she doesn't give up and she has to thank her supporters for that too because she probably wouldn't have last long under Queen's pressure.

I loved how Aidan doesn't give up on Amelia and that Bethany was able to talk some sense into him. I for one never saw that coming about Aidan but I had a feeling he was a special person. When I learned about past, I felt teary eyed. The only mystery is that someone saved him. I definitely want to know who that person is.

Bethany is same old. Kind of your true-annoying best friend. For a minute there, when there was a part about Cole calling her princess, I thought for sure there used to be something going on between them but not that obvious. Just like mutual attraction or something.

Among all, I pity Micah's role. He's stuck playing the fool for his mother but still his mother figured him out. That was quite shocking. But what I like about him is that he tries to protect and support Amelia the best way he could and that he's on the good side. I hope that he will finally live the life he deserves.

Micah's mother is one crazy b*tch. I for one can't understand the workings of her mind. Her plan for pure mages and how she treats her captives. I can't wait to see her demise. But a toast to the author for writing not only splendid H/h but the villains as well.

I don't want to spoil more but I felt for their father.

I'm wondering how many more will die thanks to that crazed Queen?

The romance wasn't that much. It was actually mild since they were separated throughout the whole book except the end. And the end is a major cliffhanger. I can't wait to see how this goes/ends.

And I freaking loved that owl shifter kid.

[Blog Tour] Spotlight & Review & Giveaway: The Darkling Lord (Court of Annwyn #4) by Shona Husk

0

Book Description

A darkling with a lust for power…
Henry Saint
shouldn’t exist. Every year on his birthday, he kills someone and takes their
soul so that he may live another year. He is a darkling, not fairy… but not
human either. Yet he is bound by the laws of both worlds. With a new King on
the throne of Annwyn and the mortal world trying to rebuild after plagues
killed so many, Henry seizes the opportunity to carve out a place of his own.
He wants Detroit.

A spy without a soul…
Darah was
Felan’s spy before he became King of Annwyn. Now he has one last mission for
her. He wants her to join the darkling’s Court and discover what Henry’s
endgame is. No one trusts the Banished when they gather in great numbers. As
Darah gets drawn into Henry’s world she realizes he can give her the one thing
she could never find in Annwyn—love. But is love worth betraying her King?

~ EXCERPT ~

This time, though, he’d have fairy magic on his side. Or at least in his possession, if not exactly on his side. He glanced at Darah.

“So, Darah, what did you do to end up here?” The cup warmed his hands. Summer was fast becoming a memory as autumn took hold.

She paused, the cup almost to her lips. After being surrounded by humans and the ugly and awkward Greys for so long, her beauty was like a rose growing among the weeds in sidewalk. Something rare that made him pause.

Her tongue darted over her lip. He shivered, unprepared for the spark of lust the thought ignited. He’d spent a long time keeping those kinds of thoughts deeply buried, and he wasn’t entirely sure he wanted to release them. Certainly not with a woman he barely knew and didn’t quite trust.

Although to be fair, most of his encounters had involved women for whom kissing wasn’t part of the job. It was safer for everyone, even if it didn’t satisfy the ache. Darklings didn’t get to love. Any human he did love would eventually die. And Greys, he’d tried once. It was easier to go without.

“I stole from the old Queen.”

“If you were exiled before the power shift and the change of Kings, you’d be dead.” All fairies caught on the wrong side of the veil had died, only the Greys had survived because they were already cut off from the magic. “Don’t lie to me.” He wasn’t a mortal fool who knew nothing of Annwyn.

“That wasn’t a lie.” And she sounded offended that he would accuse of stooping so low. That revealed a little more about her; at least she wouldn’t lie to him…merely mislead. “I was a shadow servant for a year and day as punishment. However, the taint of being one of the mad Queen’s ladies has stained my reputation.”

Henry narrowed his eyes. Her words were too careful. She had never once actually said that she was exiled, merely agreed with the assumption. “You aren’t exiled, are you?”

She sipped her soup but didn’t answer. No confirmation or denial. He was taking that as an affirmative.

He leaned back. This one had teeth and cunning; he was going to have to watch her closely. It had been a long time since anyone had roused the thrill of a hunt and the chance of a good game.

Damn his fairy blood for that one too.

“Why Detroit?” He smiled, and plucked some of the bread. It was always made fresh, but it really needed butter.

“I could ask you the same question.”

“Very well, a truthful answer for a truthful answer.” All fairies loved a deal. Was she enjoying the idea of a game as much as he was? How far was he willing to take it? It was a delicate dance and he couldn’t afford to gamble too much, nor get too distracted.

“That’s an acceptable deal.” She smiled and her gaze sharpened.

He exhaled as lust traced a razor edge over his skin. If he mis-stepped, dancing with Darah was going to hurt.

~ REVIEW ~
5 STARS

I wasn't sure what to expect about this book after the last one and I enjoyed reading Henry and Darah's story too.

I had a feeling I would like Henry and I did especially when he decided to do something that would benefit others as well. I liked how he becomes a leader in his own right but not the cliche type that wants more than necessary. Henry is a Darkling, a child of human and a Grey. In order for him to survive he has to steal a soul every year on his birthday. I can't imagine the ordeal he has gone through especially not knowing what he was till he was 40. I felt his feelings, his remorse and guilt for taking lives in order for him to live. He  questions himself whether he should live or die but living was always his option in the end.

Darah was okay but same with Henry, her past wasn't all sugary thanks to her husband. She has a chance to have her place in Felan's court, the only catch is that she would need to spy on Henry as it has reached Felan's ears that a Darkling is rising to power. Darah must spy on Henry to know his intentions whether for good or bad.

It's kind of funny when fate put them on the same fate. Them never realizing that they probably want- need more especially Darah. As she begins to question herself for what she truly wants.Their relationship wasn't easy, well most relationships aren't easy but you know what I mean. But I loved how steamy they could get. Although I wished Darah realized what she truly wanted sooner.

One thing I like about this as well, is that Felan never changed. He is a just king and that he gave Henry a chance and he is also trying to change the punishment given to the other Greys.

And I pity all Darklings. Their fate is just too sad especially when their first victim even if unknowingly might be someone close to them.

I can't wait for the next book in this series. I had a feeling there was more and this book doesn't have that conclusion feeling to it.

I do love forbidden romance and this also has some little action.

The world building was very interesting but I wished there was more information about Rain City.

There are 4 gangs in Rain City but the main focus were te Two Daggers and Black Roses. They've been at war like forever but how it came to be wasn't explained. It got worst when both heads were murderd by one another and it became the cycle of revenge. Blood for blood.

This also has sort of paranormal genre to it because there are those who are born with gifts but Cursed at the same time. Valencia is one of those people. In a roundabout a way, she meets Sebastian once again but now they are enemies and both their older brothers ordered them to fight each other to death, the only question is could they? i won't spoil more than that because that would take the surprise away. All ai can say is that their romance was very sweet.  The author knows how to set the pacing well.

I loved both Valencia and Sebastian. They are both strong, loyal, and true. I'm not saying it isn't true for the other characters except for Garret that is. I hate him especially when he uses Valenica for his own means. They also have something in common that they can relate to each other very well. I also liked Callan despite his tendency to being an over protective brother at times. But he's sweet in his own way.

What I want to know is why Bowler Hat killed Valenicia's father. That wasn't explained clearly. What provoke the Two Daggers killing him?

There's more to this story than rivalry of the gangs and I'm looking forward to read more especially when Valencia, Sebastian, and Callan joined a new side which is probably the start of a new war.
