Songbird (A Sinclair Story #1)by Jaymin EveRelease Date: July 2014New AdultSummary from Goodreads:I live my life by two rules. Never trust anyone and you don’t need a weapon when you are one.
Melodee Lee aka Songbird
Melodee Lee is not your average twenty-three year old. Her parents were government trained assassins and the base definition of evil. The best thing they ever did was leave her an orphan at thirteen.
Life’s circumstances have honed her into a strong, independent outsider. She’s made it a point to never settle down, and trust is the last thing she gives. Utilizing her only skill, she makes money in the underground cage fighting scene and anyone who doesn’t like it … well, Melodee can kick their ass as well.
Nathan Sinclair is a man with the world at his fingertips. His family is rich, politically connected and owns half of Syracuse, NY. A rising basketball star, set to be signed by the NBA, the last thing he needs is a woman with attitude crashing into his life.
Tragic circumstances bring these two people together when their worlds should never have collided. Will Nathan be the man to show Melodee that trust and a real home are not as unattainable as she believes? Or will his own demons and Sinclair family drama destroy the life they could have before it has begun?
Note from author - This is a full length, standalone HEA romance. It is recommended for 18+ due to language and sexual situations.
5 STARS
Songbird was a quick, fun, and delicious read. Melodee is not your average girl. She is an underground cage fighter and has a dark past. Meet Nate, your typical rich, popular kind of guy. The circumstances when they met started off as a tragedy but the attraction is already there. Add in a cute baby girl with gorgeous eyes, 3 other hot Sinclair brothers, and add a crazy psycho into the mix. The story is quite a page turner.
Melodee or "Dee" as Nate calls her, is afraid to show weakness and shows this strong persona but every time she's with Nate, her guard drops down and Nate is the only one who sees her. Nate can't help his attraction for Dee and despite rejecting her first because of his commitment issues, he can't seem to help but be selfish and he wants Melodee for himself. He takes advantage of the situation of Melodee and Jewel in order to be close with Dee because although he is wary of hurting Melodee, he's more afraid of Melodee disappearing. As the two grew closer, let's just say although they may have their HEA, they still have a hurdle to pass.
Despite the drama in Songbird and it cliches, I really enjoyed reading it. Nate and Dee never thought that they would fall in love because of their past but they were able to work out the kinks in their life. They both are from different worlds but at the same time it's because of that they were able to connect. I hope that Dee would be able to reconcile with her sister. I felt that part was kind of rush and didn't really have a satisfying conclusion.
Speaking of the other 3 Sinclair brothers, I can't wait to read their stories especially Mat and Candy.
